Overview

RoamAndTick ("we", "our", or "us") is a travel planning app. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used. We do not sell your data to third parties.

Data We Collect

Account Information

• Name and email address — collected via Google Sign-In through Firebase Authentication
• A unique user ID tied to your Google account

Location Data

• GPS coordinates — collected while the app is in use to detect nearby monuments, show your position on the map, and enable landmark check-ins
• City and country derived from your coordinates via reverse geocoding
• Location is never collected in the background

Travel & Activity Data

• Monuments and places you have checked in at
• Cities and countries you have visited
• XP points, level, and rank earned through check-ins
• Itineraries you generate or create manually
• Travel preferences you set (pace, diet, interests, budget)

Profile Data

• Display name and optional bio
• Friends list (by mutual consent)

How We Use Your Data

• Authenticate your account and keep you signed in
• Detect nearby monuments and award XP on check-in
• Generate personalised AI travel itineraries based on your preferences
• Track your Digital Passport (visited cities, countries, monuments)
• Show your rank on the leaderboard relative to friends
• Restore your progress when you log back in

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the app. Each has its own privacy policy.

• Firebase (Google) — authentication and user identity
• Google Places API — location search, nearby places, and geocoding
• Mapbox — interactive map rendering
• OpenAI — AI itinerary generation (your travel preferences are sent to OpenAI's API; no personally identifying information is included)
• Railway — backend hosting (PostgreSQL database, Express server)

Data Storage & Security

Your travel data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway. Passwords are not stored — authentication is handled entirely by Firebase. JWT tokens used for session management are stored locally on your device and never transmitted except to our own backend.

Guest Mode

You can use RoamAndTick without an account. In guest mode, no account data is created and no data is sent to our servers. All data (preferences, itineraries) remains on your device only and is lost if you uninstall the app.

Your Rights

• Access — your travel data is visible within the app at all times
• Deletion — go to the Me tab → scroll to the bottom → tap "Delete Account" to permanently delete your account and all associated data
• Portability — contact us to request a copy of your data

Children

RoamAndTick is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted with an updated effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
